Lyrically, the song expresses longing and humor via different school subjects, a perfectly goofy reminder to study up.

Written in short of 30 minutes, the song was funky stream of musical consciousness initially played at DIY shindigs and college parties as a call to the student-heavy audience. That is, people learned the hook. Please Her knew they had a banger on their hands. The world needs to hear “Calc 2” exponentially.

The latter section of the song punches the sonic experience with a chaotic, saw-driven pound into oblivion. In their live sets, the band takes creative liberty, whether it be entering into a full-on RnB jam or an energetic surge of power. In regards to the tune, drummer Brian Williams reminisces "lol remember when Sarah couldn't pronounce 'martices'."
